We Are Really So Lucky……Today We Have Kemal Sunal Museum!!!!
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) renewed the building, which was formerly utilized as the Anatolian Parks and Gardens Branch Directorate building, and transformed it into Kemal Sunal Museum. The Museum has been opened in Istanbul in remembrance and honor of the famous Turkish artist Kemal Sunal. The museum was initiated with a ceremony presented with the attendance of Sunal’s family, respected friends and personalities from the world of art.
Kemal Sunal, the popular Turkish movie actor and theater, was born in 1944, in Küçükpazar neighborhood of Istanbul's Fatih district. Concerning the educational history of Kemal Sunal, he actually studied in Mimar Sinan Primary School. Then, he graduated from Vefa High School. Moreover, he continued his higher teaching in the Department of Journalism at Marmara University, Istanbul, Türkiye.
For every artist, however, there is a landmark in his/her life. The landmark in the life of the lovely artist Kemal was when Belkis Balkir - a philosophy teacher at Vefa High School - introduced him to Musfik Kenter.
In 1964, after finishing his military service, Kemal began to appear on the stage at Vefa High School, like a nonprofessional in the theater play entitled "Zoraki Tabip". Following his professional appearance on the stage at Kenterler Theater, however, Kemal performed at different theaters. His life altered at what time Ertem Egilmez watched him at Devekusu Kabare Theater, and luckily, he liked him. Then, he moved to the cinema in 1973, acting like a basketball player because his tall height in the movie entitled "Tatli Dillim", which was directed by Ertem Egilmez.
Kemal Sunal Museum contains several memories of the famous actor, who died in 2000. The memories are shown in the museum, from his film posters to his special belongings, from the clothes he wore to his memories. In this manner, IMM kept the name Kemal Sunal, the lovely artist who made Türkiye laugh for several years, alive with this beautiful museum.
The lovely artist, who began his art life together with theater, then with the realization of Ertem Eğilmez, he turned to cinema films. With "Davaro", "Kapıcılar Kralı" and "Hababam Sınıfı", Sunal gained great popularity among Turkish cinema goers. He was well-known for his role as "Şaban", a name which was often utilized in his films.

However, on July 3, 2000, for the shooting of the movie "Balalayka", Kemal boarded a plane to visit Trabzon. Just before the plane took off, unluckily, he died because of a heart attack. His death resulted in a wave of sadness across Türkiye.
